Graduated 2011

What have you been up to since graduation?

I attended University of Waterloo from 2011-2015, obtaining an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. While studying, I also taught part-time at Star Performance Academy for those 4 years. After graduating in 2015, I began chiropractic college at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) and have been studying there since. I am part of the CMCC Class of 2019 and am currently in my 4th year, which is a clinical internship year where I get to treat patients while be supervised by a licensed chiropractor. I am looking forward to graduating in June 2019, at which time I will become a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC).

How has dancing helped/influenced you with what you are doing now?

Dance has taught me so many vital life lessons. First off, one of the most important skills dance taught me was time management. Dancing 20+ hours per week while maintaining other commitments and school work challenged me to be efficient in how I manage my time. There have been many instances where people have approached me and asked how I remain so calm with so many tasks that need to be completed, and my answer is always the same: from a young age I had to manage my time between my competitive dance schedule and all other commitments to ensure everything could get done. Also, teamwork is an invaluable lesson I have learned from dance. Through choreography and simply being part of a dance team, dancing showed me what it means to be part of a team, how to communicate with others, and how to appropriately handle any disagreements between teammates, all of which are integral in both my personal and professional life.

Having graduated, do you have advice you wish to share for our current Star Team?

Enjoy each moment. Time goes by so quickly through your dancing years but all the moments that are made will be lifelong memories for you as you begin your next adventure after the Star Team.
