What to Expect at Your Class: A Walkthrough of a Day at Star
Arriving
Parking is free and available all around the building, so there's no need to circle for a spot. As you walk in, take a quick look at the calendar by the entrance, it's a handy glance at what's happening at the studio that month.
Getting settled
Hang your coat in the coat room, and place your outside shoes on the trays provided. Clip them with the clips available so they're easy to find again at the end of the evening.
If your student needs to change, the changeroom is available for that. Everyone is welcome to wait in the Family Lounge, students and parents alike.
What to wear
Dance and cirque students train in fun Starwear dresscode items, designed to keep them covered, safe, and ready to move. You're welcome to arrive already dressed for class, or change once you're here, we've got changerooms, along with male, female, and universal washrooms available.
What to bring
Bring whatever your class calls for, sheet music, a script, or a dance journal, along with a water bottle. If you've got back-to-back classes, we build in 5-minute nutrition breaks so students can refuel. Bring a healthy snack from home, or grab one from our little snack shop at the welcome desk.
The Family Lounge
Grab a free coffee, take a seat, and connect to our free WiFi while you wait. There are some fun toys on hand to keep little ones busy, or ask the welcome desk for a colouring sheet. Our welcome desk is staffed if you have any questions or need to make a payment, we accept Visa, Mastercard, and debit.
Meeting your teacher
New to Star? Meet your teacher in the Family Lounge on your first day, they'll walk you in and get you settled. Already in the swing of things? Students typically meet their teacher right outside the studio door.hare mini wins with friends. Engagement doubled in a month—happy data!
During class
Teachers are friendly and assistants are on hand to help, so students should never hesitate to ask for help with a step, or ask to use the washroom or grab a drink if they need to.
We ask that students leave cell phones at home, or with a parent or caregiver for the day, so they can stay focused and present in class.
In every class, students learn new skills, practice and hone what they've already learned, and work toward a combination, song, or performance. We aim to create a fun and safe learning environment, with the right balance of hard work and an upbeat vibe.
While your student is in class
Parents are welcome to stay and wait, or head out and come back before pickup, whatever suits your evening. If you're running errands, Sobeys and Farm Boy are both nearby. For a quick coffee or treat, Tim Hortons and Starbucks are just around the corner, and there are a few fast food options nearby too if you need a meal.
